how the heck am I suppost to just randomly check my email at the right
time and just magically be there to sing in to these turnies?...
About the only response I have for that is to say that short notice
is (even if only slightly) better than no notice. I realize it won't
benefit everyone, but at least those who get the e-mail in time will be
able to play.
I don't usually send out the notifications that
close to gametime. I do typically try to give out more advanced notice.
Occasionally, I drop the ball. When I realize due to low enrollment
that I have, like a doofus, failed to notify everyone about the game
earlier, I try to get the message out as quickly as possible. Better
late than never.
It's tough though, because, as Niccolo
Machiavelli pointed out in "The Prince," you simply can't please all of
the people all of the time. I get all types of messages in response to
the timing of the e-mail notifications of upcoming donkhard
tournaments. Some, like you, agree that some of the messages are sent
to late. When the messages are sent out earlier, I often get complaints
from people who are wondering why I'm notifying them of events that are
hours or days away.
Your suggestion about sending them out a day
or so in advance seems to be the best route to go, and I aim for that
as often as possible.

You bring up another interesting point here. I do receive more requests
for people who are logged-in and simply looking for the location of
passwords than anything else.
There are tons of categories on
this forum. While this can actually make specific information easier to
find for those who know their way around, it can be quite daunting for
those who are new.
I've definitely put some thought into
revamping the forum, especially regarding passwords, but haven't come
up with many good solutions. One possibility I was kicking around was
maybe PMing the passwords to members shortly before gametime. The
drawback is that a big change like that could cause alot of confusion
to those who have been here for a long time.
For those who have
managed to find their way through the maze that is donkhard to find the
passwords, I would suggest bookmarking or favoriting the "Passwords"
category in your browser. You'll want to be sure to bookmark or
favorite the whole "passwords" category and not the post for a specific
tourney, as the posts are dynamic and ever changing.
